Vector installed its first public charging site in 2016

The company installed its first charger in 2016 and has built up the network since. In a statement to EVC&I a Vector spokesperson explained its decision to sell its charging network.

“At the time we deployed public EV chargers as a trial. The purpose was to understand the network impacts of public EV charging so that we could plan for a future where EVs are much more common on our roads. Alongside this there were very few public charging stations and we saw it important as a majority community owned business to not only understand the charging dynamics but also support the pathway to EV adoption.

"With EV ownership increasing, growing numbers of participants in the market, maturing technology, and our understanding of network impact greatly enhanced in both public and home charging, we now consider we have met our objectives.“

With a third of carbon emissions coming from transport, increasing EV ownership has become a strategy in trying to reduce emissions. One of the biggest challenges to increased EV ownership is to build enough infrastructure (e.g. charging stations) to help current EV owners as well as those who are hesitant in owning one due to range anxiety, especially on long trips as depicted in the images.

Exploring the potential of churches as EV charging hotspots
Will churches become EV charging hotspots? Will ‘WD’ Scherle of Soulful Synergy LLC sees the potential. Churches often have a great deal of parking space that is only used one or two days per week. That makes them great potential EV charging sites – especially in crowded urban areas. “Tax exemption gets a little tricky, but that’s for another day,” Scherle said.
