The renewable energy provider says the subscription model for the service is designed for drivers on a standard Octopus electricity tariff. Octopus adds that it makes cheap and easy EV charging more accessible, with no smart tariff or home battery required.
To take part customers need a working smart meter and one of almost 280 compatible EV brands and chargers installed at home.
The £30 subscription covers smart charging for one electric car scheduled by Octopus, usually overnight. Customers can choose a ‘ready by’ time between 4-11am and enjoy the greenest energy possible at a fixed low price.
Customers who want to charge during unscheduled hours can use a boost function on their app to charge at their normal home energy rate – not included in the £30 monthly fee.
With Intelligent Drive Pack, drivers pay two fifths (41%) of what petrol car owners typically spend each month (based on 2023 average mileage of a UK driver of 7,600 miles and average price for fuel).
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Intelligent Drive Pack is a completely new way to save – perfect for drivers who want predictability, flexibility and great value rolled into one. It’s another step towards making electric cars the obvious choice for everyone."
Octopus’ original smart EV tariff, Intelligent Octopus Go, now has over 260,000 customers who benefit from six hours of super cheap, green charging overnight – which is managed automatically by Octopus.
Octopus offers Intelligent Octopus Go in six other countries where it supplies energy – Italy, France, Spain, Germany, New Zealand and the US – with plans to expand the tariff elsewhere in the near future.
