National Grid hits 1,000 EV chargers, supporting electric fleet push

National Grid and ElectrAssure are celebrating a major milestone: 1,000 EV chargers installed across National Grid's substations and offices throughout the UK.

This achievement supports National Grid's commitment to a fully electric light-duty vehicle fleet by 2030.

The partnership began in June 2021 and now charger number 1,000 has been commissioned at Wymondley Substation in Hertfordshire. Over 100 National Grid sites currently boast EV charging infrastructure, aiding their mission for a clean energy future.

This milestone coincides with National Grid reaching 1,000 electric vehicles in its fleet, a key aspect of its esponsible business charter. The charter outlines sustainability pledges, including workforce diversity, reduced emissions, and community engagement.

In summer 2022, 250 of the charge points were deployed to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games for six weeks to charge the athletes’ EV transport before being rolled back into the National Grid installation programme.
