UK independent forecourt operator Motor Fuel Group (MFG) says that its EV Power charging business has this month (July) passed 1,000 ultra-rapid EV charging bays across its network.

It adds that this has been achieved in only four years since the launch of MFG’s investment in EV charging, and that MFG EV Power now represents around 12% of the UK ultra-rapid charging network.

MFG says it will install a total of around 3,000 ultra-rapid 150kW, 300kW and 400kW EV chargers at 500 sites by the end of 2030.

By 2035, MFG plans to complete its EV roll out to all suitable remaining locations in its network, including the Morrisons supermarket estate. It is also installing EV Power rapid charging hubs on 300 Morrisons car parks – Morrisons will have the most extensive EV charging offer by comparison to its competitors.

Since the completion in April 2024 of its acquisition of 337 Morrisons petrol forecourts and more than 400 development plots in the supermarket car parks, MFG has installed 66 ultra-rapid EV charging bays on Morrisons supermarkets with 150 bays to follow in next 3-months.

MFG EV Power is installing ultra-rapid and rapid EV charging bays at a pace of more than 20 per week.

MFG says it is by far the largest forecourt operator in the UK with over 1,200 sites, including all Morrisons forecourts, which are around 90% freehold, with more than 150 sites inside the M25

MFG CEO William Bannister comments: “When we launched our EV roll-out in March 2021 we committed to investing ahead of the curve in ultra-rapid chargers. I am therefore delighted that we have already passed the 1,000 ultra-rapid charger milestone. Not only are we rolling-out chargers at a rapid pace, we are also ensuring that the customer experience is of the highest quality both through the ease of use of our chargers but also through the upgrade of our adjacent convenience retail, food service and vehicle valeting offer – investing £170m in 2025 alone. Our commitment to EV is unwavering and I look forward to the continued growth of our network as MFG meets the national EV infrastructure requirement.”
