This collaboration marks the first time EV charging flexibility has been used for National Grid ESO's Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) service.

Traditionally used for commercial purposes, this project goes beyond innovation and pilot programs. Flexitricity has integrated 500 Ev.energy users into its virtual power plant (VPP), contributing to the STOR service.

During periods of high demand or unexpected generation loss, Flexitricity will request Ev.energy users to temporarily reduce charging.  Ev.energy's smart platform ensures drivers still have enough charge when needed.

This collaboration highlights the UK's leadership in opening power markets to distributed energy sources.  It also paves the way for a more sustainable and efficient energy system by integrating renewable energy sources.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to incorporate more flexible resources like EV chargers, batteries, and heat pumps into the grid. It lowers network costs and connects users more effectively to the power system.

Looking ahead, similar initiatives like National Grid ESO's Quick and Slow Reserve services will further unlock the potential of flexible EV charging, benefiting both drivers and the entire grid.
