EV Active Managed Charging is the latest addition to Bidgely's UtilityAI EV Solution, that can offer over 300% ROI for load shifting

The new Active Managed Charging (also known as direct load control) is now part of Bidgely’s end-to-end EV solution that also includes EV Detection and Targeting; EV Passive Managed Charging (behavioural load shift); and EV Grid Analytics.

Active Managed Charging can be launched in just weeks without data integration as a turn-key, standalone application. Over 25 OEMs are available for data connection with seven available for active control: Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Toyota, Tesla and VW.

Bidgely says it has the industry’s only complete and proven approach to EV engagement. The company’s EV solution accurately targets high-peak charging customers for incentive programmes using its patented AI-powered EV disaggregation technology. By delivering 90% or better accuracy in identifying customers with EVs on the grid and providing behind-the-meter visibility into their charging behaviours, Bidgely’s EV solution provides utilities the ability to better target their highest-value customers for load-shift programmes.

“The EV revolution is going to have a rapid and profound impact on load pressure, grid resilience and decarbonisation. This will mean that utilities will need to take a smart and integrated approach to EV engagement and management, at a pace they have not historically moved,” said Bidgely CEO Abhay Gupta. “The only way to do this rapidly at the scale this revolution demands is by harnessing the power of data and AI to empower smarter energy decisions in an integrated and connected way.”

Bidgely has partnered with a range of utilities to help them realise sustainable load shift through the intersection of AI and EV consumer behaviour influence. A tier one investor-owned utility reported over 90% accuracy in EV detection and estimation, with a 75% load-shift from on-peak to off-peak. Now, 97% of all EV charging is occurring off-peak.

Comment: UK’s charging networks deter EV ownership
Range anxiety is not the main issue for EV drivers, it's 'destination desperation'. Most public AC chargers do not accept contactless payments, and the myriad of different operators usually require drivers to set up an account and download an app. The situation is ridiculous and acting as a deterrent to EV ownership, argues Colin Sowman.

Breaking down global EV market demand and revenue
While electric cars will remain the largest electric vehicle market for the foreseeable future in terms of battery demand and market revenue generation, most transport sectors are facing a transition. In this article, IDTechEx summarises key developments in non-automotive sectors, showing each sector's global battery demand (in 2021) for relative scale. For reference, battery-electric and plug-in hybrid cars demanded approximately 280GWh globally in 2021.
